Acronyms

An acronym is a type of abbreviation. It is a word made out of the first letters of other words.

Acronyms do not have periods and they are almost always written in capitals letters.

AWOL - absent without leave

NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration

NATO - North Atlantic Treaty Organisation

OPEC - Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries

PIN - Personal Identification Number

RADAR - Radio Detecting and Ranging

SCUBA - Self-contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus

SONAR - Sound navigation ranging

SWAK - Sealed with a kiss
